Lady Gaga - Bad Romance
« on: Sep02-2010, 12:00:29 »
Now, I gotta say, this is so far from my usual type of music, I myself am in shock I actually really damn dig this song.    It's about the music industry, if that means anything to anyone.     It just sticks in my head, has a great beat, rhythm, and the video is just so freaky I can't stop watching it.    My usual music   taste is extremely eclectic.   If I had to have 5 groups to listen to for the rest of my life, it would be, in this order, Cat Stevens, Tool, Warren Zevon, Garth Brooks, Iron Maiden.  Knowing that, that should tell how far removed this is from my norm, which, in the way I think, says a whole lot.   Enjoy

Flotsam Trivia:   She's only 5'2''

Not news to me... Gaga has 3-4 songs in my Collection.... freakish image and stupid publicity stunts aside... talent and good writing still produces good music once in awhile.

She is very talented on the piano, has a better voice than people give her credit for .... and how anyone could think that body belongs to a man, I don't know...

I also rather like some of her stuff...  She's a bit odd, but *shrug*

Random Trivia 2: The contacts she has in during this video are banned in the US and youung lady gaga fans are ordering them from overseas via the internet. (http://www.thedeadbolt.com/news/107970/lady_gaga_contact_lenses_news.php)

Not a fan. I hate this type of produced music, industrial studio sampled crude imo. I like music where people actually play the instruments and don't just sample melodies and make them electronic.

I also like DJ's who sample music live with turn-tables ect because that takes talent as well. So I'm not against all electronically created music, just the stuff that has been this industrialized.

As far as a pop godess goes, she isn't the worst I've seen but I still won't waste much of my time listening to her/watching her. If she were more like Tori Amos and sat at the keyboard a little more I think I'd like her a whole lot better. I'm sure she has songs like this from some of your comments and I'd much rather listen to that.

I can see why you dig this video though, it reminded me of a very sexually charged tool video. Schism comes to mind with the freaky humans on hands and feet doing that head bang thing along with the crazy spinal effects she used in her backside nude seen.. Maynard has used that same make-up in shows for years now. I guess I kinda dug the video as well, it certainly wasn't the music that enticed me to watch the whole thing.

As far as voice and writing go, well I have a hard time listening to it with this type of music.. just chaos with a very catchy I-IV-V-I progression that makes singling out any one type of instrument very hard. But I don't blame her for producing what a majority of people want to hear, she'd be infinitely less popular if she were one of my favorite artist.

The video is cool, they do a lot of great stuff, stuff to take away from for inspiration.

The music has it's moments, and I wouldn't call it artistry, but she gets the energy into it for sure.

However, the very final scene was amusing enough for me anyways.

Lady gaga is pretty ugly... In the first few lines where she says she wants your ugly, all I could think was, "But, how much more ugly do you want?"

And I swear half of those shots are body doubles of hers. Last candid video I saw of her on a stage she was all kinds of sloppy.

if you have pictures taken of you 1000 times a day for years you'll probably end up with an unflattering one.

Wow Cap. I got new respect for you musically than ever, and your one of the few that enjoys half of the bands I listen to.

@Lao I also mostly listen to stuff like The Mountain Goats and other bands only heard in bars and sell 20 records out the back of their van a night.

Anyways, you say you hate industrial music? You hate Ministry? Skinny Puppy?

Cuz those bands could do everything on record live and blow most death metal bands off stage sonically. Actually ministry toured and recorded Psalm 69 with death metal players.

Anyways, I consider the studio an instrument. Fuck man, if you only like bands that could do their stuff live than you can't like half of The Beatles shit. Not that they are for everyone.

Edit: and almost every rapper but Em sounds like fucking shit live.

One more at Lao, btw I've grown up with tori, I still have an early poster of her on my wall and she was my object of sonic and sexual obsession for like 5 years. I went to about 5 of her shows up until she started using a band.

I too have a couple Lady GaGa songs in my playlist. Know who else I like (which suprises me, actually)? La Roux. Not a good lookin gal, but damn I dig the 8bit type feel to her songs.

I found another Cover of the song that was very interesting...not sure if I like it yet...but I do love 30 Seconds to Mars and you have to admit Jared Leto has amazing vocals...this is LIVE....which usually is a bad thing for recording artists :P

"Bad Romance" covered by 30 Seconds to Mars on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge
